The Minority Executive Council, first established in 1968, is designed to center the experiences of faculty and staff of color, and welcomes all members of the campus community who wish to participate, learn, and engage.
Membership
The Minority Executive Council is open to and welcomes any faculty or staff member of The College of New Jersey that shares MEC’s commitment to “centering the overall experience and professional development of faculty and staff of color” at TCNJ.
Mission
The Minority Executive Council is designed to center the experiences of faculty and staff of color, and welcomes all members of the campus community who wish to participate, learn, and engage.
In accordance with the college’s mission and core belief that “the College’s cultural, social, and intellectual life are enriched and enlivened by diversity,” MEC supports various programs and activities that enhance the quality of the TCNJ experience.
Goal 1
Provide support services and professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
Objectives:
- Sponsor Newcomer’s Reception for new faculty and staff, and solicit their involvement in MEC
- Serve as a resource for faculty and staff of color
- Encourage MEC members to submit articles to College publications and other professional newsletters and journals
- Annually sponsor a professional development luncheon for its membership
- Encourage and motivate MEC membership to actively pursue professional development
- Provide resources and recommendations regarding diversity to the President of the College
Goal 2
Support programs and activities that enhance academic and social success for students of color at The College of New Jersey
Objectives:
- Sponsor Book Scholarship through fundraising efforts
- Encourage MEC membership to build mentoring relationships with student organizations of color
- Sponsor annual Commencement Reception
- Recognize outstanding student achievement in academics, leadership and service to the community through annual awards
- Advocate for culturally representative curriculum
